Date: Jul 11,1999 Installed wu-ftp 2.6.1, please report any problems. Note changed operation NLST (ls) command no longer shows Directories. Date: Oct 1, 1999 Web and ftp server moved to 4.3.2 machine, 100 Megabit link. Date: Jun 1999 We now have 4.1.5 (42T), 4.2.1(41T) and 4.3.2(F50 [Wow!]) machines. Date: Feb 1, 1999 We're back in buisness. Dropped 3.2.5 machine, removed AIX/ESA packages Date: Dec 1998 No funding, library idle with no updates. Date: Nov 11, 1996 The Server: ----------- Our server is now a 42T, running AIX 4.1.4, We have a 41T as our 3.2.5 site. AIX 4.1: -------- We're running 4.1.4 now. AIX 3.2.5: --------- Dedicated 3.2.5 machine now in use. This should solve the problem of X11R5 binary incompatabilities. AIX 3.1.5: ---------- We'll keep 3.1.5 versions around for a while longer. ESA Versions: ------------- We're thinking about discarding the ESA versions, not too many people are downloading them any more. For the history minded we'll keep the following information available. Date: April 26, 1995. For ESA versions: ----------------- Effective Sept 16, 1994: The ESA version of the PDs in aixpdslib will not be updated any further, in addition we will not install any new ESA versions. If the space allows, we plan to keep the compressed tarred files of this version (binaries and source codes) available after then. For RISC/6000 versions: ----------------- Starting sometime in June 1995, hopefully, the new coming/updated RISC version of the PDs in aixpdslib will be compiled in AIX 3.2.5 and the X-windows packages will be compiled with IBM X11R5. So, please read the README* files to see which version of R5 the package you got was compiled with. As you may be aware, any program which was compiled and linked with dynamic libraries under MIT X11R5 will not run under IBM X11R5. So: 1. For our old executables which were compiled with MIT R5, if you have IBM R5 installed, then you either need to fetch and install MIT R5 under /usr/local/X11R5 or you have to recompile from source code. 2. For our new and/or updated executables which will be compiled with IBM R5, if you have MIT R5 installed, then you need to recompile the from source, on your system. One way to get away from this recompilation problem is to compile the codes without the dynamic linked libraries. But then, the sizes of the packages will be huge and aixpdslib will not have enough disk space to provide all of the PDs it can support. We apologize for this inconvenience. Again, if the space limit allows, we are planing to make the executables available for both IBM R5 and MIT R5 ( or MIT R6 ). Still, that's not a promise for the time being. Any request/suggestion/assistance/contribution is more than welcome. Thanks for using aixpdslib. -------- library@aixpdslib.seas.ucla.edu
